In Brazil the Golden Law abolished slavery in 1888 but then 130 years later, it was discovered that slavery in some sectors of Brazil is still present because of the social production relationship that’d been adopted in colonialism. In March, 565 Brazilians were found enslaved in a religious sect of Brazil. Despite efforts from companies like International Labor Organization, Human Rights Watch and Inter-American Court of Human Rights, modern slavery and labor exploitation is still very present in Latin America and other parts of the world. Instead of slavery using elements like physical violence and abuse, and turned into ideas of the end of the world being a fear used to take advantage of religious beliefs.<\/p>\n
In my opinion, I think using the idea of the end of the world to get people to work for you is kind of disgusting. With slavery already being extremely immoral and wrong in so many other ways, using someone’s faith against them is so two faced. It’s a big concern in the area because this form of modern slavery is one of the most under-reported crimes and it’s hard to identify the victims and perpetrators involved. I really think slavery shouldn’t exist anymore at all just because of the abuse people put upon the slaves and the fact that we can do things for ourselves. I don’t think we as humans need to force other humans to do jobs we could all easily do but just don’t want to do them because it requires a little bit of hard work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
