I played the role of Budan in the simulation. Budan was the country that had fleeing Rubit citizens, and the goal of the conference was to come up with a solution for the refugees. From the standpoint of Budan they were choosing to leave on their free will, but almost all the other parties present at the conference (except Malil) believed Budan was treating the minority unfair and poorly. Heath was the main speaker of Budan and I would contribute to discussions among Budan and in group time, as well as give Heath additional points while he was speaking to the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I felt prepared for the simulations, and I feel that our goal was for the most part accomplished. The goal was to find a safe place for the Rubits to live that was not within Budan’s borders. This was our goal because we wanted the Rubits to be safe, but we did not want to force them to stay where they were fleeing from. I think this was accomplished in our clauses that were voted on as a conference, and I believe compromise was key to this simulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I struggled with the informality of the conference in comparison to model UN. At times I felt like it was a bit chaotic. I enjoyed the debate of the conference as well as struggled with it. I enjoyed the mix of people you put assigned as different representatives. I also very much enjoyed the topic of the simulation because it is similar to current events of the world. I learned to broaden my perspective in regards to current events in the world and the process and time of the United Nations. The only thing I believe could be changed is the formality aspect, which may be difficult to do in a classroom setting, but maybe enforce the model UN policies more. I think it adds to the simulation as a whole and makes it feel less like a class debate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
