Tensions in Columbia and Venezuela rise as diplomatic efforts make no ground. Currently Venezuela has a Columbian Congresswoman, A\u00edda Merlano, for months now. Merlano has escaped and been recaptured 3 different times. Venezuela is using the congresswoman to broker a peace agreement between the 2 states which would benefit Venezuela greatly. The Colombians however are using the captured Congresswoman to unify their people behind the government and deny the peace proposals of Venezuela.\u00a0 Both governments using Merlano as fuel to throw on the fire. Columbia is refusing the dictatorship of Venezuela and feels they are trying to take over his country. Still refusing to restart diplomatic relations which sparks tension between the two states. Currently Colombia recognizes Juan Guaido, a diplomatic leader as the president of Venezuela which angers the people in government who are against him. Because of that Venezuela shut off diplomatic relations with Colombia which Columbia is still refusing to restart. Merlano actions work both in the favors of Colombia and Venezuela but also cause a lot of heat and stress between the states. I find all of this very childish. From the reports I\u2019ve read it feels like kids fighting over who gets to play first. Merlano is doing what she can to stay alive but is only making the problems worse between the two governments.
