This song represents freedom for Cubans away from their previous dictatorship, graffiti of “Patria y Vida has been spray painting all over Cuba’s major cities, and you can hear Cubans singing, “down with the communist beast, down with the dictatorship.” Ramón Saúl Sanchez, who is the leader of the democracy movement claims, “this is the beginning of the end, because the Cubans can no longer hold out, because the dictatorship cannot be reinvented and because the old hitmen are dying or are moving aside because they are very old.”

This article is important because it shows how much power the people of a country truly have and the steps they can make just through a simple little song. For the rest of Latin America and more importantly all communist countries, I hope this situation is a sign that things do get better, and reminds people that anything is truly possible if everyone shares the same passion for a common goal. This situation in Cuba is unique and very emotional for Cubans given their history with Fidel Castro, Castro was the dictator of Cuba since 1976 until his death in 2008, and they now have a song to represent their freedom and fight for democracy.

Using the levels of analysis, we can take a deeper look into Cuba’s past and try to step into their shoes. On the individual level we would analyze Fidel Castro who reigned over 30 years of dictatorship in Cuba, Castro adopted anti-imperialist ideas and planned to overthrow Cuban president Fulgencio Batista long before coming into power. On the state level we can analyze the entire communist party of Cuba, which was founded in 1965. The communist party of Cuba adopted many principles from Russian Marxist Vladimir Lenin, including the idea of democratic centralism. On a global level there weren’t many international actors because this was mainly an internal issue.

Link: https://latinamericanpost.com/36281-is-cuba-on-the-verge-of-a-democratic-spring A new revolution is occurring in Cuba, the song Patria y Vida by artist Yotuel, Gente de Zona, and December bueno has ignited a new hope into Cubans.
