This article talks about the former police chief and his scandalous activity throughout his time as chief. Juan Carlos Bonilla, also known as “El Tigre” or “The Tiger” was announced police chief in twenty twelve and his term ended in twenty thirteen. During his time as chief he was accused of abusing human rights during his in command. This is just one of the reasons a Honduran judge ordered the extradition of this former police chief to the United States, as he also was accused of drug trafficking and weapons charges. This is not a new problem for the United States, as they had requested his extradition in May of twenty twenty-one. Bonilla denied these accusations, and said he would go or do whatever possible to prove that he was not the one behind it and it was indeed regular drug traffickers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article is important because it showcases how once someone gets to a position of power it can very much be abused. Some people are determined to chase a position of power just so they have access to things they would not have access to as a regular citizen. Bonilla is a perfect example of this as once he got in power he did all the wrong things and used his power to try and benefit himself with illegal actions, instead of doing his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article relates to what we talk about in class through comparative government because it shows that when you are down in Central America and Mexico, drug trafficking is more of a common thing than it is in the United States. People are easily exposed to this, especially being a police chief, which is what Bonilla fell into.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
