Last Friday it was announced that Guatemala is taking in Ukrainian families fleeing their homeland since Russia’s invasion of its neighbor last month. These Ukrainian families arrive in the Central American country for humanitarian reasons. One of the Ukrainian members who were able to flee released a statement saying “I don’t know what the future holds for us, but I hope the war ends soon, said one of the arrivals in a video disseminated by Guatemalan authorities. It’s hard to say how much my heart hurts for my mother and father in Ukraine, who can’t leave.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of this article is that many families in Ukraine are having to split in search for safety while others fight for their country. Other countries in the Central American region have been looking to help out as Guatemala’s announcement was the first on Ukrainian arrivals from the Central American countries known as the Northern Triangle. The other countries included Honduras and El Salvador which have themselves seen much of their populations emigrate due to violence and poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relates to the class that rising tensions between Ukraine and Russia have caused major impacts on the rest of the world. There has been a rising number of Ukrainians and Russians who have fled to Latin America in recent months. Additionally there has even been turn up at the United States-Mexico border of people looking to get into the US. We are not sure how long this conflict with Russia and Ukraine will go on for but it has caused detrimental effects on many families and indirectly affected many other countries.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
