The hackers have interrupted the country’s tax collection and exposed citizens’ personal information as the President Rodrigo Chaves who previously sworn into office described the attack of 18 April as an act of cyber terrorism. The State Department added that the ransomware group “has been responsible for hundreds of ransomware incidents over the past two years” and that the FBI estimates it has made more than $150m from victim payouts. With all these Department being down the countries has had major trouble doing business.

This is important since even the US State Department announced there is up to $15m in rewards for information about the key leadership of the gang. Costa Rica so far has declined to pay, which resulted in Conti updating its data-leak site on Monday with 97 percent of the 672 GB of data that the group claims contains information stolen from Costa Rican government agencies. The Ministry of Finance was one of the initial targets on April 18 when the Conti russian speaking gang first started these cyber attacks, however many other government agencies were affected like the Ministry of Labor and Social Security; the Ministry of Science and Technology.

This relates to international relations that in the following days we will see which countries will help out Costa Rica who are in a terrible spot as their ecomency has begun to plummet. The United States is one of the first countries to speak out and offer aid and help to Costa Rica as they look to partner with nations willing to bring justice for those victims affected by ransomware. With Costa Rica having such a huge breach in their national security I am really curious how the country will be in the next 6 months.

https://news.sky.com/story/costa-rica-declares-state-of-emergency-following-russian-speaking-criminal-cyber-terrorism-12609215 Costa Rica has now had to declare a state of emergency following the Conti gang behind these ransom attacks.
