Leaders of various Latin American countries have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the new American President as well as their intentions to stand in solidarity with the Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto. This comes as quite a surprise considering that Latin American countries have been divided as rivals between two competing organizations: the Mercosur (or Mercosul) and Pacific Alliance. Mercosur includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela (currently suspended), as well as five associate members. The Pacific Alliance consists of four countries: Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. In spite of this rivalry and the differences between these countries, they have risen above the competition to band together in opposition to Trump’s policies. With plans of merging the alliances already being thought up by the leaders of Argentina and Chile, Trump’s negative plans for Latin America could very well speed up this process. I think that this reunification of Latin American countries can be beneficial to those involved. By recognizing a mutual dislike of Trump, they can focus on how to improve themselves and their economies, with or without the help of the United States. Trade can improve between the Latin American countries which will in turn strengthen and stabilize the region. I think their plan to look elsewhere, away from the United States, towards countries like Europe will work in their favor until a new president is sworn in four years from now.

It appears as though the harsh immigration and trade policies Trump is planning to enforce with Mexico will reunite the countries of Latin America.
