He has published multiple posts to Twitter showing is support and has no problem letting it be known. He is also receiving criticism for comparing the situation in Gaza to the Auschwitz concentration camp, which is provoking harsh responses from Jewish organizations. Former foreign ministers are trying to reverse his jarring comments by assuring people that they “decisevely support the end of agression between Isreal and Palestine”. The WGC claims that what Petro said is “a shame to you and your country” when speaking to him.

I personally admire Petro’s consistent effort to support Palestine and disregard the opinion aspect of others, but I also think it was a little selfish when it comes to what that means for his country and whether or not his allies will agree with that opinion. Supporting Palestine was already controversial for him to do, but I think he took it too far when attacking Isreal. When doing this he put his country at risk for future relations with other countries who may support Isreal. He definitely offended many members of the Jewish community, regardless of trying to support Palestine.

This relates to our class because this current event is something that we consistently touch on since it is so significant, America is sending billions of dollars to support Isreal which is something to consider. Something that comes to mind when comparing this to what we learn about this event is whether or not the American media plays a role in young peoples opinon since it is something that mot of us are not heavily educated about. Regardless, the different opinions spark conversations in class that are definitely important to have, and including other countries stand point is important as well.

https://latinamericanpost.com/45504-what-diplomatic-implications-do-gustavo-petros-statements-have-about-israel-and-hamas Colombian president Gustavo Petro is being heavily criticized after sharing his controversial opinion on the Isreali and Palestianian conflict.
