Canada has made major accusations towards India and their involvement in this murder and other violent acts towards the pro-Khalistan movement and its supporters. India has of course denied this claim saying it’s absurd. Both Canada and India have sent each other’s highest-ranking diplomats back to their home countries which is a significant mark in their relations. Throughout history, India has been heavily against the Khalistan movement as it threatens their unity and stability, which makes this situation even more complex. Even through good trade and cultural ties between these countries, their relationship continues to decline and it’s looking very messy.

This article shows the major decline in India-Canada relations, focusing on the effects following Nijjar’s assassination and the Khalistan movement. The conflict between these countries reflects deep-rooted issues over sovereignty, free speech, and differing views on security threats and political activism. Historically, India has always been against Sikh separatism but the removal of diplomats shows a much more significant and intense conflict. This conflict could push other nations to clarify their stance on separatist issues within their borders, and it could be very significant in its effect on regional alliances and economic ties. This conflict could reshape how countries choose to deal with international activism and tensions.

India may respond by tightening security measures on separatist activities abroad and demanding that Canada take a stance against pro-Khalistan groups. Canada could conduct a thorough investigation to address domestic security concerns and push for international support. Sikh leaders and pro-Khalistan supporters may try to increase advocacy efforts by holding rallies. They also seek further protection in Canada. Other countries who notice these strong tensions, may reassess their individual policies on activism to prevent conflict or tension of their own. There are many different responses to these tensions and many different outcomes to this difficult situation.

Link to article: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c89lne2k87vo This article discusses the rising tensions between India and Canada following the recent assassination of Sikh Separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
