Trump has already spoken to other countries, including Russia, when he spoke on the phone with Putin. They discussed the war in Ukraine where Trump supposedly advised Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine. Trump is planning to find a resolution to the war soon and reminded Putin that the US has a military presence in Europe. Trump not only talked to the Russian president, but he also supposedly talked to the Ukrainian president. Biden invited Trump to the Oval Office to talk about their affairs in Europe and to state his case that the US shouldn’t pull out of Ukraine because they have aided them with tens of billions of dollars. Russia and Ukraine are still fighting and neither one wants to withdraw. Trump also had calls with the German chancellor about cooperation and peace in Europe, and South Koreans president about working in Seoul.

Trump seems to be taking action already to prepare for his presidency, and it is much different than what the US has previously been doing the last four years. His presidency will change the course of a lot of foreign affairs and much more. The war is between Russia and Ukraine, but the US has a lot of influence in it, so we can really affect what happens between them, even though it’s in a different continent. Because the US has a two-party system, who wins the presidential election can significantly transform many affairs, including foreign ones.

In the US, Trump will try his best to manage foreign affairs and others might try to influence his decisions. Other countries have to act differently because there will be someone else in office with different principles than before. Russia and Ukraine are trying to have a relationship with Trump, because of the war going on and the influence the US has in it. Trump is already planning things to get ready for his term in office.

In class we learned about levels of analysis, and this had a lot at the global/systematic level. This event is between multiple countries around the world. This events shows global cooperation, like military alliances and demonstrates the collective goods problem. Ukraine and Russia are at war and both want the same thing, Ukraines land. US is a unipolar power and is aiding Ukraine. Other states could also bandwagon with us to gain power, like in a war or conflict similar to this one.

The US foreign affairs are going to be different now that Trump was elected to be the 47th president.
