This is gonna be known as a good counter to China’s Belt and Roads Initiative (BRI). Because we don’t like the BRI, because this would cause China’s economy to grow. Angola had relations with Russia and China until 2017 which then they started getting closer with the US. The Lobito Corridor is considered an alternative to the BRI and will be aimed at building trade routes to different countries in Africa. As the world wants to switch to more greener energy, the more minerals that are desired from Africa. But they wanna focus more on promoting local processing and reduce exporting. China’s BRI has been criticized for pushing countries in Africa and Asia into deep dept. This investment from China is something that Angola really regrets to this day. America is shifting to invest more into infrastructure. The Lobito corridor, or the railway, has a goal to connect the atlantic ocean to the indian ocean.

Something that really interested me was the talk about China pushing other countries into dept, it is making me wonder if there is more to this BRI than it shows. I know the reason they are doing this is because they wanna revive another version of the silk road, which would really benefit them. They’re economy really goes on based around exporting so this could do a lot for them, especially if they are pushing and investing into other countries to the point of debt. This could be a fortune for them. I feel like on the outside of this BRI it is supposed to sound like such a great opportunity, but is reality really that?

The US investing could mean many things, for what it seems is that Angola is quite excited for the tighter relations with the US. And I think this is just the beginning to people realizing that China investing in them might not be the just trying to be nice and have good trade. China could potentially seriously benefit from this and like Angola said, they really regret taking that investment from China but they swear to pay back their dept. So this probably caused a lot of restructuring in a lot of different countries to set themselves out of this dept and repay China back. And how will these depts make these countries feel with China in the end?

I feel this really connects to when we were talking about Liberal Theory. Ideally it would be so great if everyone could work together, but that chances of that happening is very ideal wishing. So China has this BRI to have something kinda like the Silk Road but that connects China with the world globally and so this would help them a lot economically since they earn lot with exporting their goods outside of china. So ideally it would be nice for the entire world to be connected and getting along and working together like we are all apart of some sort of team but realistically China is doing this more for their own benefit rather than getting along better with others.

LINK

Joe Biden has gone to visit Angola and to discuss the trades and american investing in Angola’s infrastructure.
