Due to China depleting it’s own marine ecosystem near it’s shores, many rely on Argentina’s coast to make a living and supply food for their country. The Argentinian government has said they’re going to keep an close eye and monitor all the Chinese ships. The ships are hovering just outside of Argentina’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The EEZ is established to give 200 miles of ocean to the country that’s bordering it to be able to profit from. Many ships hunt for squid in the region as they are abundant. The Argentinian military has said it will ramp up efforts to combat this as they fear of a enviornmental collapse.

The Argentinian military has started to take action as it impacts the Argentinians that live and fish their for a living. The Chinese out compete the local fisherman and take resources as they are very close with the EEZ zone. This could impact relations between the nations and how they trade with one another. With the Chinese being so close to Argentinas EEZ if they cross the line which they will most likely do, it would cause further implications and then most likley be taken the UN. Although anything getting done is very unlikely with such a large nation like China, many countries will condem the actions and maybe place restrictions on the Chinese.

Both nations could most likely resolve this through diplomatic means. A war would be extremely unlikely, although maybe a few ship rammings could happen like what happens in the South China Sea. A few trade wars may arrupt from this as tarrifs could be place a trade war may start between the nation. This would most likely stay in a regional level if even due to the sheer unimportance of what’s going on. The following countries within the region may join in the conflict if China continues to be near the EEZ zones of the nations. Ultimately this is a really low threat risk and would be at most a diplomatic or trade war conflict between the countries.

Article Link: https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/10/americas/argentine-military-hunts-chinese-fishing-vessels/index.html Just off the coast of Argentina, Chinese fisherman boats have been filling up the region with 380 ships.
