Tensions are rising between Venezuela and the United States as 2 F-16 fighter jets buzzed a Navy guided-missile destroyer to show force. This article mentions that the U.S. is sending warships and surveillance planes to the Caribbean. One thing the article touches on is that United States President Trump has signed a directive in July ordering the Pentagon to use military force against Latin American Drug cartels and “Terrorist” organizations. The U.S. military has so far deployed eight warships, several Navy P-8 surveillance planes, and one attack submarine in the region. The article states that Mr.Maduro, the current president of Venezuela, has responded to the U.S. Military action in the region and was warned of and responded with an “armed fight.

This article is important because these issues between Venezuela and the U.S. will only continue to increase tensions. For example, this will increase regional tensions due to the U.S.-driven campaign against Venezuelan cartels as well as Venezuelan instability. The U.S. is hoping that it can encourage and create a desire for a democratic transition in Venezuela’s government. So some lasting impacts could be viewed as positive, such as control and limit of drug cartels and possible democratization. Some Negative effects could include increased tension, which could lead to necessary military intervention and actions such as war, political instability, and social unrest in Venezuela. Something that could be after this event in the future is the U.S. relationship with China because China is currently siding with Venezuela on this issue, so if matters worsen, a possible conflict with China could arise.

The United States will most likely maintain force and pressure in this region due to the current campaign, aimed at helping the situation with drug cartels and democratization. The United States will also maintain force because it currently has a large number of vessels already addressing said issue. Venezuela will try to build up its military force and strive to maintain peace. However, tensions most likely will continue to rapidly increase.

This issue is connected to class because the ongoing issues with America and Venezuela are connected to the involvement of multiple IGOs ( Intergovernmental organizations). For example, the Organization of American States (OAS), the United Nations (UN), and the IIMA Group.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/05/us/politics/trump-maduro-military-venezuela.html There has been a rapid increase of U.S. military presence in the southern Caribbean Sea to address a deadly strike against a drug vessel that seemed to come from Venezuela.
