Following deadly U.S. military strikes on vessels in the Caribbean, President Trump stated and threatened that he is ending aid to Colombia after President Petro of Columbia accused the U.S. of being and acting like “murder\u201d when dealing with drug trafficking in Venezuela. Petro objects to the drug campaign, while the U.S. alleges the boats were drug vessels. Colombia believes they are there for a different reason.  Furthermore , Colombia has now recalled its ambassador from the U.S, and Trump has called Petro an “illegal drug leader.” Trump also said U.S. financial and humanitarian aid to Colombia would be cut off and limited and details about the new tariffs will be revealed at a later date but will be imposed onto Colombian goods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This agreement is heating up the tension between the US, Venezuela, and Columbia. The US has responded to Columbia’s remarks by removing aid and placing increased tariffs on Columbian goods.  Columbia remarks and response were directly connected to the military presence in Venezuelan waters, this presence is making Venezuela and Colombia government confront the US government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will have a large lasting impact on this region because tensions are rising between the US and Colombia and Venezuela. This is increasing conflict and could lead to a war. This is an important issue because cutting aid to Colombia will affect them on domestic leave as America was helping them with counternarcotic effects and stabilizing rural areas.  This could lead to a negative relationship which will not help the US precipitation in that area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 This issue is connected to state sovereignty  and authority. This is because Colombia is questioning whether or not the US has the authority to go about the drug campaign the way they are. The US has been accused of invading Venezuelan sovereignty by returning their waters, however, the US believes they are within their jurisdiction and are carrying out their campaign in international waters. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
