This group of immigrants includes owners of transportation companies, travel agencies and tour operators. The state department also made a statement on November 17th that they even revoked some visas of Nicaraguans in certain situations. In the state departments report they also mentioned how they hoped that this border restriction will end the rising rates of illegal immigration from Nicaragua as these groups I discussed before are the main way the illegal immigrants are getting through.

I believe that this article shows important information because this process seems like a big stepping stone toward the ending of illegal immigration that the Trump administration has been pushing for after the reverse effects from the Biden Administration. But, from what the state department discussed about revoking visa in the situation with the companies and agencies I think this might also be the start of the riding of immigration in whole because of this huge fear of illegal immigration in the Trump administration. The riding of immigration will speed up America’s progress on the demographic transition model as net population will significantly decrease.

If I was America I wouldn’t resort to revoking visas unless absolutely necessary because the risk of illegal immigration compares nothing to the literal end of the United States through the decrease in net migration. If there really was no other option I would still plan a “reopening” of the border to Nicaraguans which makes up 7% of all of Americas immigration. This would still allow an attempt at controlling the issue without bleeding while still having a plan to recover from the net population loss. The people of Nicaragua can’t really do much because of their lack of power and the fact that their opponent has powerful allies and have leader positions in powerful organizations like the UN and NATO.

I would claim that America is using smart power when they close these borders because they’re using hard power in a strategic way which is the definition of smart power. The border closings can be counted as coercive because of the violent break outs that occurs during these blockades because as we also talked in class, violence mainly occurs more often at state or nation borders because these borders are a breading group for national disagreement because of the constant blending of nationalities and people.

Link to Article: Article This article discussed a situation that’s occurring in America that involves that United States state department imposing visa restrictions on incoming illegal immigrants from Nicaragua.
