The environmentalists believe that if this expansion continues the risk of spills becomes exponentially greater with an additional increase in magnitude of the spills. The head senior attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) says that the endangerment of the marine life in the area and the increase of carbon emissions isn’t worth the increase to 80 million acres of oil reserves. Their basis of the suing comes from the belief that the Ocean Energy Management Bureau broke the law by failing to conduct an environmental review of the situation.

I think that the key factor of this situation mattering in the first place is if the Ocean Energy Management Bureau truthfully failed to conduct a review because without that the environmentalists have no basis behind their suing so it will probably be a very quick case. I do think that expansion of oil reserves might be a little irresponsible but then again the central government has the final say in what happens so if they believe that this is the right thing to do then I’d rather try to see the good than just be a pessimist .

If I were Trump I would attempt to get the environmentalists on your side by conducting your own investigation into the failure of the report. The only problem I see in this is that if it is true I almost guarantee that people are going to be more angry with Trump than the actual organization that committed the crime because history tells us that people are going to blame the central government for every little problem. Trump could also just not care about what people say about him because it’s not like he’s going to run for another term. The environmentalists should just make sure that they’re argument has strong proof before they embarrass themselves in court with no evidence.

I already mentioned that NGOs are in play here which can be a little connection to class. But I would also connect this to the term customary law because mass oil drilling used to be viewed as unethical in places, especially in America, but America continued this practice for centuries to the point where citizens don’t even turn their head when they here about mass oil drilling.

Link to article: Article This article is about how an environmentalist NGO is suing the Trump administration for their perusing of expanding oil drilling in the Gulf of America.
