Higher oil prices could boost short-term government revenues via royalties and Petrobras dividends, but prolonged disruption to refineries or production risks fueling medium-term inflation and complicating monetary policy.

Sources indicate potential damage if the war persists. The Finance Ministry plans to release updated projections in the coming weeks, with the first bimonthly report due by March 24, potentially triggering spending freezes to meet fiscal rules. Expectations for central bank rate cuts have turned cautious, with a possible 25-basis-point reduction instead of 50, amid Selic rates at 15% and significant debt tied to the benchmark.

This event is a clear example of how conflict can spread beyond the directly affected region. War can deeply impact those not even involved in the conflict but affected through the repercussions. US conflict with Iran, resulting in air strikes and the assasination of the Iranian leader, was initiated by the US and Israel. As a result of these strikes, oil prices are beginning to sky rocket and the general global economy is beginning to experience turmoil as the oil industry has taken a hit due to the conflict.

Brazilian government could respond to this event by monitoring trade and looking into alternatives. The goal would be to keep the economy stable, and in order to do this, support the needs of the population. Other countries experiencing similar issues could look into redirecting their sources to ease the financial strain on citizens.

This connects to the concept of conflict scope in international relations. This is the affected geographical region during a conflict, but can also be used to describe the area which becomes involved due to indirectly being affected as a result. Non-involved states are forced to become involved once conflict is impacting their ability to function as a state, and once this happens, regional conflicts grow into global ones.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/iran-conflict-clouds-brazil-outlook-ahead-budget-review-2026-03-10/The ongoing conflict involving Iran is complicating Brazil’s economic outlook as the government prepares to revise its 2026 budget forecasts amid heightened market volatility.
