For years the Philippines has emphasized the importance of security issues happening among its borders. It’s dealt with many issues, some of the more important ones being crime and terrorism. Understanding of the controversy occuring in Jordan, Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, has announced he is willing to send his troops to fight the Islamic militant. Eager to expand military alliances with middle eastern countries, Duterte was quick to respond to the issue. President Duterte went as far to say, if there was anything Jordan was in need of, he would be there to supply it. He argues he longs to help Jordan in order to associate his government with the idea of being understanding of the problems in society. I believe it is a good thing President Duterte is so willing to help another country out by sending troops to fight against the Islamic group, but the Philippines can be easily manipulated if this goes too far. In many cases like this where a country is seen trying to support its allies, it can be easy to contribute an extreme amount of resources without having the money to pay for it. The Philippines, already struggling with issues related to poverty, corruption and a steadily increasing population, could easily find themselves in a situation where they are low on resources and over committed. I believe when countries offer assistance to others, they must ensure the safety and stability of their own country before lending a hand to others. This protects not only the country offering help, but also the country who may be on the receiving end of such help. Being equipped with a strong foundation and adequate resources, increases the ability to successfully offer assistance to other countries.
