In Aksu, China, a woman named Zohra is being held in a “re-education camp” as her brother talks about in this article. She and 3,000 other Muslim Uighurs were taken and brought to a military base surrounded by 5-meter high barbed wire fences. All the men had to shave their heads and everyone wears blue uniforms. Tarim, Zohra’s brother, says that he visited her and that she was not herself at all. Zohra was pale and had dark spots around her eyes. After all this information Tarim gave, they are saying that the security in Xinjiang is necessary and that it isn’t targeting a specific religion or ethnic group. In 2017, Thousands of Turkic Muslims and Uighurs were being taken to “Counter-Extremism Training Centers” or “Concentration Camps”. The Chinese government is committing human rights abuses on a scale we haven’t seen in China in decades. It is said that the UN investigation “brought to light deeply disturbing allegations of large-scale arbitrary detentions” in Xinjiang. Another story talks about how a woman’s mother, father and husband were taken to a concentration camp and her child was taken by authorities. In 2009, there was one incident with a Muslim Uighur couple and their four year old son who were all killed in a knife attack. Somewhere in the article Tarim says “dogs have more rights than Uighurs in China”.
