My first reaction when I was reading these articles was the fact that these major events are happening all over world and as an American citizen I rarely hear about the tragedies going on all around me. The article that really stuck out to me was the activists in India. I was so interested in it because similar similar movements have happened in America recently. The Women’s March and March for our Lives are just a couple of examples of major movements in which American citizens wanted change from our government. In the article about the journalists in Myanmar it talks about how journalists exposed secret government information and they were arrested for doing so. In my opinion, I believe the journalists were doing their job by uncovering stories. If the information they uncovered was for the public good I believe they should be rewarded. My other article that I found explained the tariff on trade in China. President Trump is predicted to raise tariffs for products that we trade with China for. This is a terrible idea because China will not be understanding, they will most likely back out of any trade agreement with the United States. I have no idea what America will do in that situation because we rely on China for many goods. For my final article, I read about the 6.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Japan recently. This shocked me because for such a major natural disaster to occur I did not hear anything about it. It seems crazy that America is so caught up in their own problems we face that we forget about what is happening in other countries. The United States should use the power it has to help countries that cannot represent themselves. For example Indian citizens feel helpless because when they fight against their government they are punished for doing so. Also, we should send relief teams out to Japan to help with the damage of the earthquake. These are just some current events that are happening in my region that Americans need to take more notice of.
