Over the past couple of weeks, the UN has done a lot of investigating/expressed concern in many parts of East Asia. More specifically they have been focusing on events in the states of China and Myanmar. In both of these countries there have been suspected genocides/ethenic descrimination against certain minority groups, which both countries thoroughly decline. The sad part of this is that who knows when such atrocities will be halted by the UN, because of how slow moving they are and those that are on the security council. China, who is on the security council will just continuously decline that any such allegations are true, which will halt/hinder the ability for the UN to figure out if anything of that nature is happening greatly. Also in Myanmar, Russia is backing the Myanmarese government, so they will deny any allegations thrown at them too.
At the end of the day the sad truth is that it all comes down to politics and pride. No person or government ever likes admitting that they are in the wrong or that they messed up. People hate taking the blame for things, especially the ones with worse consequences. So if China really is in the wrong here, why would they want to admit it? Nothing good would come out of that for them, and if they think that said ethenic group is a “problem”. When it comes to Myanmar though there is no acceptable answer as to why the “presumed” ethenic genocide is happening. It is not as if the Rohingyan Muslims started a revolt against the government, and that they are currently a threat to the safety of the rest of the country. They are a bunch of innocent civilians that are different from the majority of the country with their culture/beliefs, and for that they are being murdered. There is nothing that can excuse those actions. That is where the UN needs to step up, and instead of just sitting around and waiting for confirmation from all of the members when the evidence of these horrors are as clear as day, they need to move forward to protect those persecuted.
