Authorities in Taiwan have imposed a ban on imports of live pigs, pork and related products from Japan after a case of swine fever was detected in the country. Taiwanese officials announced the measure on Saturday.

Two hogs in Gifu Prefecture, central Japan, were found on Friday to have been infected with the swine fever virus.

Taiwan imports about 40 tons of pork and related products from Japan annually. Officials say the ban will remain in effect until further notice.

Taiwan has also halted imports of pork from China, where cases of swine fever have been reported.
