Analysis of Thailand becomes latest Asia economy to slow on trade war

Thailand economist saw their economy begin to slow down throughout the months of July and September. The Thailand analyst saw this decline in their economy through the primary means of the trade war between America and China and a slowdown in tourism. Now the trade war is affecting not only the country of Thailand, but also the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries in the Southeast Asia region. Exports make up for 60% of Thailand’s Gross Domestic Product, and that dropped about 5.2% showing the effects of what the trade war has done to the shipments of the country. Tourism for Thailand makes up for about 20% of the economy, and due to the fall in Chinese tourists visiting the country this has not bode well for the countries economy. Some of the decline in tourists can be explained by a boating accident that happened in Thailand killing about 50 Chinese tourists.

In my opinion what is happening to Thailand is not entirely terrible. Surely this is not a positive thing that is happening to Thailand in anyway, having their economy begin to slow down and all. But in reality this situation is not entirely terrible. Like the Article stated the economy is slowing down, not going through and abrupt economic depression or anything to an extreme. No, rather the country itself is going through a minor economic hiccup that may take some time to overcome. What the real problem is with all of this is the fact that many countries are being affected by this trade war between America and China. The fact that one country is going through an economic hiccup is one thing, having multiple countries around in the same region go through a similar situation is another. If other countries are suffering economically because two large and powerful states are having a dispute over who wants to be the more powerful economic leader than that’s a sad output of life. These smaller states should not have to suffer from these larger states decisions, and this can either be solved with America and China solving this economic disputes properly or these smaller states like Thailand should do is start focusing on themselves economically and not depend so much on the large powerhouse states.
