China has been investing a lot of resources into their ship building programs, specifically their aircraft carriers. The Chinese government has invested in a new aircraft carrier as well as updating their old one with new technologies. The new carrier has new technologies that allow for more room to be used for the launching and storing of aircraft. Their old carrier is getting new weapons updates as well but won’t quite be as advanced as the new one. The US in comparison, has nineteen functional and 10 fully functional aircraft carriers. China after this build will have two. The US and China have been economically competing but the one thing that china lacks is a military power that is comparable to the United States’. China is trying to expand their land territory in the South China Sea to gain access and claim international waters which have valuable resources that can be harvested. The Chinese are attempting to expand their global outreach with shipping through Greenland as well. They are attempting to use a Greenland as a port for shipping through the Arctic Sea. China has just commissioned a handful of icebreakers to be employed in making a new silk road through the arctic sea. To secure this waypoint of Greenland, China is planning to invest in the poor country. Greenland is technically a part of Denmark but they are self-governed. The Chinese government plans to invest in three airports in Greenland to create jobs and spread wealth in the arctic region. This could be a very controversial issue in the Western Hemisphere. This investment by China, a communist country, could worry the Denmark and the United States. The United States could view this as an expansion of communism into the West which it views as a threat. The US competed for control in struggling countries trying to prevent communist during the Cold War against the Communist Soviet Union. As the US and Chinese continue to fight in a currently suspended trade war, the issue arises of what the US might do if the Greenland would become communist. A new war could break out but according to Liberal theory, this is unlikely in today’s day and age.
