Just recently president Donald Trump and Kim Jung Un met to discuss denuclearization in North Korea. The summit began with high hopes and with promises of Korea being a powerhouse economically. However it ended with no agreement on the denuclearization. According t Trump it came down to the fact that North Korea wanted to have all their sanctions lifted and according to Trump they couldn’t do that. They were willing too denuclearize large portions of their territories but that was not enough for the United State to lift all their sanctions and because of that they had to move in different directions. Trump says although they have different visions, he wants bridge the gap. Kim Jung Un said North Korea would cease testing nuclear weapons and Trump will take his word on it.
After reading this I had some mixed feelings about the whole thing. I find it disappointing that the two leaders were unable to come up with a solution. It’s a bit much for North Korea to ask to have all sanctions lifted just for some denuk-ing. But it’s a good sign that North Korea would be willing to denuke for something. Hopefully they would be able to denuke for something less. Another good sign is the North Koreans agreed to stop testing nuclear weapons. It shows a sign of tensions potentially cooling between the two countries. The fact the two leaders were even able to meet peacefully with high hopes to begin with should a good sign that the countries will eventually move away from a potential nuclear war. At this point the United States should have hope that the two countries will eventually reach an agreement with North Korea about denuclearization. The president seems to have high hopes and more future meetings will come with the pursuit of a new a deal.
