N.Korea’s Kim heads home after summit with Putin

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is heading home after his first summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the city of Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East.

Kim and Putin discussed denuclearization, relations with the United States and economic cooperation during their meeting on Thursday.

On Friday, Kim visited a war memorial and paid his respects to fallen Soviet soldiers. He had lunch at a restaurant that his father, the late Kim Jong Il, visited 17 years ago.

At Vladivostok Station, a Russian band played the two countries’ national anthems before Kim boarded his armored train.

North Korea’s state-run media is reporting that Kim told Putin that the future of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula depends entirely on the US attitude.

Pyongyang is apparently trying to draw out concessions from Washington with an eye to a possible third summit.

Kim’s second summit with US President Donald Trump in February broke down over the issue of US-led sanctions.
