Hong Kong region report- South and central asia and Oceania

China continues to be in the midst of civil backlash as they try to peacefully take out the protest in Hong Kong. Although the people of Hong Kong are very against their assimilation into mainland China and are having  many revolts and protest against mainland authority. At the moment it’s hard for economic support and military support to enter the area from supporting nations. Yet, the Hong Kong citizens are holding strong to their own and also the minories in the are rising up and looking for more equal opportunity through the conflicts.

The United States are very interested in the situation and are in support of the pro-democracy move from Hong Kong. They are trying to give Hong Kong protesters economic support and still keep good relations with China. That would have happened if Military aid from Beijing wasn’t released to try and put and end to the resistance in Hong Kong. Because of the Military support coming from Beijing the States had to back off. So the Economic support with the Hong Kong rebels was ultimately a bust. Also all trade with firm working out of hong kong has been halted as the military enters the city. As the protest become more and more violent china is more closer to full military action to stop protest which is the worst possible answer,

The protester are working very hard as well to push democracy. Just recently there has been a lot of clashes between University students and the police. Many of these protests and clashes have turned very violent for both sides resulting in many injuries and sometimes death. These actions remind many of protest held in South Korea where the protesters wouldn’t stop until the constitution was changed. For many Hong Kong citizens this is really the ultimate goal. They are also looking to influence other chinease people to see their government as wrong and to rise up as well and help make it a democracy. Most of these people don’t want to lose all that they have for a system that in their opinion is unjust. Many Korean students that are in exchange in Hong Kong have spread pro Hong Kong ideals to South Korea seeing the parallels between this clash and the won they had a while ago.

Many Ethnic minorities are using the chaos to start looking for rights. Through all the protesting and fight between citizens and police the minorities have been in heavy support of Hong Kong hoping to gain social status from their actions. They feel that enough is enough and are working with the protestors to help stand up. They are working to bring civil rights and liberties into the light and to be looked upon as a Hong Kong citizen rather than an ethnic minority. I am personally in support of the protesters not because i feel like just must prevail or democracy must spread, but for their own lives. These people are fighting and working hard to protect the lives that they have and I think that means something and the mainland chinese just want to take and take with no thought to others. I don’t really know the interworking of the government of either side but from what I have read and seen I would like the protestors to pull through
