Temperatures in Australia have reached an all time high in November, prompting the Australian Government to issue a total fire ban. In Sydney, Temperatures passed 104 degrees Fahrenheit and in more southern locations temperatures have reached 113 degrees Fahrenheit. The Bureau of meteorology have predicted a heat wave in these parts of Australia for the next 5 or 6 days. This heat wave, is on the heels of the world famous ” black summer” that happened just last year. Where absolutely massive bush fires burned 12 million hectares, killed 33 people, and killed over a million animals. Because of the dry conditions and high winds, the Rural Fire Service issued a ban on starting personal fires for most of eastern and northeastern New South Wales until conditions have calmed down.
Sadly, we are starting to see the real effects that global warming is having on our world. Last year, we not only saw massive fires in Australia but also on the west Coast in the U.S. However, I think that it is a good sign that Australia is taking action to try to prevent a repeat of that disaster. It shows that governments around the world are truly trying to take steps to prevent, and stop global warming. Someone has to be a leader in change and prevention of global warming damage, so it makes me happy to see a clear example of that.
I believe that the article shows the realist theory at work, specifically in national interest. The realist theory is the idea that countries should use military force and focus on national interest in relation to politics. The reason why Australia is demonstrating the realist theory is because they are focusing on solving their own problems ( massive bush fires) rather than helping other countries who may also be facing problem with forest fires. ( liberal theory?) Australia is prioritizing themselves, or focusing on their national interest.
