COVID spread slows, with fewer than 400 new cases for 2nd day http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20210119000481

For the second day in a row the number of Covid cases recorded in South Korean remained below 400. 15 days earlier, the number of new cases recorded was 896, while today it is 386; obviously an improvement. Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has asked the citizens to follow strict Covid guidelines in order to combat the disease, and they have done just that as seen by the results. During a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures, Chung stated that ” we cannot lower vigilance until we can wholly return to our daily lives,”

When I look at the Covid numbers in South Korea it makes me very happy. I believe that it is obvious Covid isn’t just going to go away overnight, so it is necessary to value and celebrate the improvements we see around the world, however small they are. Even though people are still getting infected, there is process being made which is the important thing to note. Because eventually, if every state in the world could be making the same kind of process as South Korea, then Covid will eventually be defeated.

In class, we discussed the effectiveness of different types of governments, specifically democratic governments vs communist governments. Covid has shown the flexibility and effectiveness that democratic governments have. This is shown through the success that democratic governments have had in fighting the virus when compared with the success communist governments have had. Obviously there isn’t a single solution to the virus, but the effectiveness and easiest solutions have been discovered and applied by a majority of democratic governments over communist governments. We can see that success in South Korea, because the numbers of new cases are finally rolling down.
