Taiwan officially has reported that twenty four Chinese military aircrafts entered the Taiwan air defense identification zone. Taiwan reported that nineteen of the twenty four aircrafts which included J-16 fighters and H-6 bombers flew over waters southwest of Taiwan Thursday morning. Eventually some of the aircrafts broke off and passed through the Bashi channel between Taiwan and the Philippines. They eventually reached waters off the Southeastern coast of Taiwan and turned around just to follow the same route back. Five Chinese aircrafts also entered the air defense identification zone later that afternoon, this time they flew over waters near the Pratas Islands. This is the third largest number of aircrafts that has entered the zone since Taiwan began to release data in September of last year.
Although this is the third largest number of aircrafts that has entered the zone since Taiwan began to release data this does not surprise me that China is doing this. This seems to me as something China would do because of their thoughts on how Taiwan is part of China. Therefore this will only make Taiwan more angry and continue to grow their military strength and eventually try to gain full recognition and independence. It isn’t a big deal that it happened this once but if a large number of aircrafts continue to enter Taiwan zone and territory we will definitely see tensions rise.
Taiwan is a non recognized state trying to gain recognition. One reason they cannot gain recognition and are not recognized is because China does not recognize them as Taiwan but they recognize Taiwan as part of China. This is why tensions will continue to rise between China and Taiwan if China keeps flying aircrafts into Taiwan’s waters and zones. Although China does not see a problem with it since China sees Taiwan as part of their country, Taiwan will eventually not put up with it and possibly pull its closest ally the United States in to help.
