A UN official said that after a meeting China will vow to tackle global development issues. Specifically China will aim to end climate change and the reduction of absolute poverty. China is committed to have net zero emissions by the year of 2060 and to stop funding coal fired power plants. As becoming a permanent member in the security council China plans to pursue these sustainable development goals. China has made big efforts to control climate change by aiming for the carbon neutral target and eventually have net zero carbon emissions.
I think that China is aiming for these goals for one reason and one reason only. They are one the most polluted countries and have a lot of poverty in their country. It definitely is good that they are doing this because I feel that they are a big part of pollution and climate change in the world and by aiming to fix these issues it will solve a lot of problems. “a major step here in the right direction in combating climate change.” said the UN spokesperson
Other countries are looking to regionally collaborate with China and find new technology to find solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the world. By China working to solve solutions specifically in climate change this shows the collective goods problem because countries are putting in their time and technology and money to ultimately benefit from having less carbon emissions in the world. Also by The People’s Republic of China working with the UN they are a part of the worlds largest IGO. By becoming a permanent member in the UN this will overall help global development in the world. It will create a better environment and an overall better place for people to live.
