This article talks about how the Japan’s Defense Ministry retracted its earlier claim that North Korea fired two ballistic missiles rather than one on Oct. 19, saying that it had mistakenly detected a man-made object in space. This all started because North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile from a submarine to do some testing on their missile and no countries were really aware of this. This claim from Japan that there had been two launches contradicted reports from our countries’ analysis like the United States and South Korea that only mentioned a single submarine ballistic missile being launched and was just causing confusion of not knowing if there was a single missile test or multiple.

The importance of this is that it is causing some rising tensions among the Korean Peninsula. Another reason this is important is that the Japanese government on Wednesday maintained to believe for a month or so that, North Korea launched two ballistic missiles the previous day, contradicting a report by the North’s state-run media that only mentioned a single projectile. This was really stirring up the pot since not everyone was saying the same thing. Additionally the weapons test would likely violate United Nations Security Council resolutions, although it is unclear if there will be any retribution. In September, South Korea launched its own ballistic missile from a submarine and successfully hit a designated target. Part of a series of recent missile tests by North Korea, the launch was condemned by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as “extremely regrettable” and a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.

This relates to the game we played in class that no one really trusts each other and at the end of the day, every country thinks for themselves. North Korea is kinda doing their own thing developing missiles to emerge as world powers. While other countries are just trying to keep track of what they are doing before they have enough of it and take their own actions. This article mainly emphasizes the fact that countries are mainly against North Korea. But to sum it up all countries just wanted to get on the same page of how many missiles North Korea launched on Oct 19th.
