There have been rumors surrounding Xinjiang about them forcing labor onto their workers and not being fair and equitable towards them. Twelve Xinjiang experts and scholars decided to hold a symposium to address the issue at the region’s capital, Urumqi. They stated that there were Western Politicians coming up with these allegations to try and limit the prosperity of Xinjiang. A professor stated facts about the Xinjiang labor force such as how the employees regardless of race, religion, or gender all have labor contracts with their employers outlining their freedoms and free will based on China’s regulations and laws. The article also adds that the US never has rumors about their labor force and that they claim to be a sound system, while they however have not signed three important legal documents on forced labor issues.

This article is important because it clears up past thoughts on how a region in China had treated their employees. To outsiders, I think I speak for a lot of them when I say that China’s labor force in general is regarded as something one does not want to be apart of. However, this article is very encouraging towards thoughts about the labor force in that area and makes it sound like just any other employer/employee relationship. It is intriguing though that they point out something they have done while the US doesn’t, and the US really doesn’t have bad thoughts surrounding our labor force.

This relates to what is being discussed in class through the topic of power. China is a very powerful region and there are a lot of mixed emotions when discussing how they run their country. This shows that some things people consider bad aspects of China, like the treatment of employees, is mainly something people need to look into before they make this assumption.
