China Faces Worst Crop Conditions Ever Due To Climate Change

Article: “China Faces Worst Crop Conditions Ever Due To Climate Change“

As global temperatures continue to rise, China’s agriculture industry has been hit by extreme weather, threatening the food supply to support its large population. Climate change impacts such as mass crop damage and loss of arable land have made it extremely difficult for China’s farmers to yield enough crops to meet demands. This year is predicted to be one of China’s worst crop conditions in history.

Heavy rains damaged millions of acres of farmlands, wiping out a great supply of crops. Additionally, the strains that climate change has placed on farmers are threatening the agriculture sector’s labor shortage. Because of China’s effort to meet food demands that heightened the need for imports of corn, soybeans, and wheat, the country is in an incredibly delicate place when considering trade and supply shocks.

Countries including China continue to ignore climate change and keep turning to coal and fossil fuels for energy, in time crucial for the implementation of green energy sources. Unfortunately, at the moment, technology is still in a place where it is more financially beneficial for countries to invest in unsustainable, high emission sources of energy, such as coal and fossil fuels instead of pushing for more sustainable energies such as solder, wind, nuclear, and hydro energies.

Luckily, with the recent breakthrough in nuclear fusion research, there is hope for sustainable energy, but this is still a long way off. It is extremely important for the countries equipped with the resources needed for sustainable energy to use them for that purpose, or we will begin seeing an increase in climate related disasters, such as a global food shortage. China is already experiencing a mass shortage in crop yields, so it won’t be long before other countries begin to feel these effects as well.

In connection to class, China, also known as the People’s Republic of China, is a sovereign state with strong economic ties all over the world. Because of its reliance on trade relations, a shortage in high-demand foods such as wheat, corn, and soybeans will mean global implications, therefore, it is crucial for countries to take the necessary steps to reduce their carbon emissions and stop global warming.
