A Chinese foreign minister sends a ritual offering urging Japan to break their militarism. The Yasukuni Shrine, where World War II Class-A war criminals with heinous crimes are honored, is a spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism war of aggression. China urged the Japanese side to earnestly honor its statement, and commitment to facing up to and reflecting on its history of aggression, make a clean break with militarism, and win the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community through concrete actions. Japan has not yet responded to the offer and will most likely not respond.
China is doing what they can do to bring their regional counterparts in peace with their country to retain more security. They are doing this by asking the Japanese to break their very strong belief of an aggressive military which they continue to praise to this day. If Japan denies this offer it shows that Japan is possibly willing to be aggressive to take action if China were ever to go against their national interests. This is obviously not good for China because it could potentially make Japan a threat and stop them from making any aggressive moves. Also, with China’s relatively small military due to the progressive investments throughout the years may not be in the best interest to be involved in a conflict with Japan.
This relates to class because it shows how a unipolar system is very slowly moving its way to a possible bi polar or multi polar system. With China continuing to attempt to make allies and with their regional counterparts, and their slow growing of military for their possible attempts in the future to move in on other countries, will slowly make China a more powerful country. Maybe one day challenging the unipolar power of the United States.
