Taiwan has begun practicing new military drills in response to the Ukraine and Russia war that is currently happening. They have begun doing these new drills because Taiwan believes that they have many similarities between Russia and Ukraine, and China and themselves. They believe that they may try to have the same war strategies and are practicing in defending themselves in that case. China officials’ response to these new military drills were comments made that Taiwan is not their own country, saying that they are still a part of China. But China continues to step up military pressure since the last two years.
China is very obviously formulating an attack on Taiwan. They have been putting more money into the military each year and are training their military. But it is truly questionable whether or not Taiwan is really a valuable asset to China. China does want to take over Taiwan but why, they are a very tiny piece of land in the Indian Ocean that most likely does not have many natural resources. And considering how many deaths could potentially be caused by the war between these two countries. But, Taiwan does seem to be more correlated with the United States and could potentially be a vantage point for them if they needed to. It also is probably intertwined with many extremely profitable trade routes so it may be worth it after all.
This relates to class because it shows how a unipolar system works within the strategy of other countries. The United States has a vantage point on China through the country of Taiwan. So, China needs to step in and take control of that country. It is also a display of their true power that as not yet been discovered and could potentially match that of the United States.
