Xi Jinping has just announced that he is planning to visit China sometime before next year. This trip is meant to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia and the pursuit of becoming more powerful than the U.S. There will be a summit in the Middle East about the growth and influence of Beijing in Saudi Arabia, where the U.S used to reign supreme over the land. This trip has been in the works for months, and is planned to take place in the second week of December. According to the Chinese foreign ministry, they backed Beijing´s desire to ¨work with Saudi Arabia to continuously consolidate mutual trust and deepen cooperation, and push the China-Saudi comprehensive strategic partnership for greater achievements.¨

This a sign that the east continues to work together in order to dismantle the unipolar system that has currently been running the world since the 90s. The true power of the U.S has declined, however, as other countries emerge and become more powerful again. It´s especially significant considering this race is between the most powerful global actors, China and the U.S. Since 1949 their relationship has been bittersweet, with at times cooperating with each other and also against each other. What set the stage for this odd relationship was the fact that the U.S supported the nationalist party of China when the communist took over in 1949 by Mao Zedong. The U.S is also on the opposing side of the Korean war when China backed North Korea in the fight for communism.

In the article the main idea being discussed is the idea of multipolar theory. This states that the best way to maintain a peaceful is by having multiple people holding the power, allowing countries to place checks and balances on one another. This prevents one country from becoming all too powerful and ensuring that they do not abuse their power. China sees the west as a threat to them ever since 1949 and have been creating allies with other eastern countries to consolidate power. We can see this as the struggle for a balance of power and having it being constantly tipped by the actions China has been executing by rallying these countries against the U.S.
