North Korea missile launch sparks confusion in Japan

On this past Thursday, Japan called an evacuation order for the island of Hokkaido due to a North Korean missile that flew near the island. This evacuation order was recalled after 30 minutes, when it was decided there was no threat. Tensions between North Korea and South Korea the entirety of this year as there have been 27 North Korean missiles launched so far. Details on the missile itself have not been made public yet, and the UN Security Counsel, South Korea, and Japan have all called this a “grave and imminent issue.” Although, North Korea is currently celebrating Kim Jong Un’s 11th year in power this week, and his birthday. And in the past, a way to celebrate is through a show of military force. But on the other hand, North Korea and South Korea regularly exchange phone calls twice a day. North Korea hasn’t been picking up the phone. And in October of 2022, a missile was launched and flew over northern Japan and landed in the Pacific.

North Korea has been doing things like this for years, so I don’t think this should be taken very seriously. Especially because it’s a very big North Korean holiday. But, on the other hand, not returning phone calls and a continued escalation of missile launches doesn’t bode well either. Eventually though, unless North Korea stops, I do think a missile will land and kill or harm someone. Accident or not, but all hell would break loose. But that has yet to happen, and I hope it doesn’t ever.
