The US government had a summit in South Korea where the US pledged to increase their support in the region, including sending US Strategic Assets and a Nuclear-armed Ballistic Missile submarine to South Korea. Biden also pledged to give South Korea more insight on its nuclear plans, specifically in the region. This has raised anxieties and fears in North Korea, North Korea described it as a most hostile and aggressive action to take and as “A sinister aim of the US to turn the whole of South Korea into its biggest nuclear war outpost in the far East”.

Ultimately as tensions continue to rise in this region, specifically in Korea but also in Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, war is likely inevitable, its likely that if there is ever to be another major world war it will be largely be fought somewhere in East Asia, tensions in the region are incredibly high and foreign interest is also incredibly high. Along with having two emerging global hegemon in the regions it is incredibly volatile for war.

In class we have discussed human rights and human rights violations, a large deal of the animosity for one another in the region is due to human rights and violations of them. North Korea starves its people and executes others with little regard for due process or human dignity. This is a part of the reason why so many countries globally hate North Korea, but North Korea also has a good reason to hate a US backed South Korea. During the Korean war countless tragedies were committed against North Korean citizens by the US government, its not unbelievable that they would still now hate us.
