The prime minister of South Korea, Han-Duck-Soo, has been labeled as “consistently incompetent and irresponsible” and lawmakers have called for South Korean president, Yoon Suk Yeol to dismiss him of his duties. President Yoon is expected to make use of his power and reject the bill to fire the prime minister. South Korean lawmakers state that the prime minister has failed to navigate post-pandemic economic issues in a progressive manner, he is also accused of creating high tensions between South Korea and nuclear armed North Korea. The parliament of South Korea has voted in favor of the removal of Prime Minister Han Duck Soo with 176 out of the 291 lawmakers supporting his removal.

South Korea’s prime minister being removed can have impacts on East asia because some countries support the prime minister while others don’t. Firing the prime minister can make a statement to the rest of the region about what South Korea’s morals and values are. I believe that South Korea should keep their parliament happy, if the majority of parliament voted for his removal and the president uses his power to veto then there will be a increased chance of riots and protests within their citizens. This can cause economic losses for South Korea and make it very difficult for them to trade with other countries which might cause them to lose allies.

We’ve talked in class about how nation leaders can impact their relations with other countries. Not to mention that somebody like the prime minister is representing the entire country of South Korea with his actions. So if the majority of parliament feels like their prime minister is “incompetent” and “irresponsible” and the president does not fire him then that shows that the country of South Korea itself tolerates irresponsibility and incompetence. Not firing the prime minister might also make the president appear corrupt for keeping someone in office who isn’t doing their job properly. In class we always talk about how important diplomacy and international relations are. Not firing the prime minister can have negative impacts on South Korea and their diplomatic relations.
