For context, the greusome civil war in Myanmar resurged in the early 2020’s due to a coup that took place in Feburary of 2021, since then the country has been through turmoil with protests and violence. In north-east Myanmar, a camp meant for disspalced persons as well as surrounding area, controlled by the Kachin Independance Orginization (KIO) has been attacked by armed forces. The attack was a clear obstruction of human rights and all victems of the airstrike were civillians, 11 of which were confirmed to be children and sadly left 56 people injured in this incedent. Last year, a similar occurence took place under the same circumstances, leaving 80 people dead while the military government has become more active recently and veiws the KIO as a threat to their authoritarian rule.

Considering the 63-year long conflict in the state, I belive this is only another example of what will continue to happen in the country, the unlawful military power the Myanmar government holds as well as the poor treatment of it’s people. The KIO as well as many other insurgent groups in the region will continue to challenge the government for control of the surrounding areas. The continuing conflict should be stopped, however this civil war has been on and off for so long it seems as if the UN must put an end to the war crimes commited by the millitary government and hold these leaders accountable. I think we have a long journey ahead of us in terms of this country, the situation is complex and there are so many ethic groups with influence on this population as well as individuals who play a role in the coming events of the war.

As far as connection to class, this civil war has shown that the Myanmar government does not consider human rights and continues to ignore the cries for indapendance in the country. These groups and especially the leaders who play important roles in the outcomes of this war must adress the challenges this country is facing and come up with solutions to help the people and communities they should be serving instead of literally destroying. The international community is aware of the government’s wrongdoings and as mentioned before should make the general public aware of the growing conflict, it feels as if the country is at a stalemate and cannot get out of the war and violence, therefore a third-party should enter the conversation. In conclusion steps must be taken to ensure human rights stays a priority in Myanmar and we must stop looking the other way when attacks like these happen.
