This article is about how the United States, South Korea, and Japan all are meeting to evaluate North Korea’s more recent threats, China’s growing power, and North Korea and Russia’s growing ties. Recently North Korea has become a bigger threat in Cyber Security and the surrounding countries are becoming nervous. Due to this, South Korea, Japan, and the United States are meeting at Camp David to try to come up with solutions for these problems. The main way that these countries want to try to exert leverage is through economic pressure. Hoping to stop China’s threatening advances on Taiwan and control North Korea. While North Korea claims to have no ill intentions just protecting themselves the rest of the world is not so sure. This is in part due to the recent satellites that they launched into space claiming that each country has the right to protect itself and that is what North Korea is doing. North Korea also claims that South Korea has done the same so the UN is making exceptions. However, the United States fired back claiming that South Korea had no military weapons on their satellite. The United States is also worried with the recent hacking coming from North Korea that they are becoming more involved with Russia. While North Korea and China were the main topics of interest, the meeting also covered the happenings of the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine War. I think that this meeting is interesting and telling about what the United States views as their best interests. In my opinion, this meeting is for the United States to meet up with their allies and ensure that their allies still feel that working with the United States is in their best interest. We know that the United States is trying to work on containing communism. I think that is also why it concerns the United States that North Korea and Russia are growing closer. Because North Korea can create world destruction based on the weapons they have. And the United States does not want to allow either country to get more allies. Recently in class, we have been discussing international security, this is a perfect example of why having diplomacy is so crucial. Since the invention of nuclear weapons, we are living in a time never seen before when we have the opportunity to create mass destruction. Due to this newfound possibility, there has been a new layer of complexity added to foreign policy. The United States and our allies need to ensure peace and cooperation from countries that we don’t get along with but we can’t make them feel threatened or else we have to consider the possibility of the country lashing out due to its perceived threats. This is why the United States is constantly meeting with allies and other countries to strengthen relationships and find a common goal so that we can ensure that a nuclear weapon does not get into the wrong hands and that those who already have a nuclear weapon never feel the need to use it.
