Trump bars US transactions with 8 Chinese apps including Alipay

Trump has banned several chinese contactless payment apps, similar to cashapp or venmo, saying he does so in an attempt to protect national security, as chinese software has access to private information, and may help the chinese communist party gain more information about America. This reminds me of the attempted tik tok ban last year, for the same reasons. I understand why Trump is interested in protecting private data when it comes to commerce apps. When he tried to do the same for Tik Tok, I didn’t really think it made sense because I don’t think very important information could be found via Tik Tok, although some people have said that they can gain access to ALL the data on your phone through the user agreement. Banning the commerce apps makes a lot more sense to me because they could contain very important information from people’s banks or their social security information. The article says that Biden has said very little on the topic of foreign tech security, but he could easily repeal this ban when he takes office. China doesn’t like this ban, and says that it goes against fair competition, but I think this is one of the few things that I can agree with Trump on. I don’t know a lot about technology or security, but I realize how important it is to protect our data from foreign threats.
