China conducted a military drill consisting of a beach landing and assault drills in a province that is directly across the sea from Taiwan.Videos of the training show Chineses troops storming a beach and breaking through defenses and digging trenches. This action would be done in preparation for if China ever invaded Taiwan. Taiwan is greatly annoyed by the tactics that China is using and have said that they will defend themselves if they are attacked by China. This event is occurring just weeks after China staged a large military drill that involved Chinese planes entering into Taiwanese air space.

This is another example of China once again trying to force its military might upon Taiwan. China has recently stated that its military would be able to invade Taiwan by 2025. The Chinese said this days after Taiwan announced that they would be spending over the next five years almost nine billion US dollars on their military. With Taiwan increasing their military spending they hope that it will be enough to keep China from invading them. If China does invade Taiwan it is unclear how the world will react. Many countries have relations with China under the One-China policy but if China invades Taiwan it may cause relations to deteriorate with the rest of the world.

Taiwan is a non-recognized state. Many countries in the world are unable to recognize Taiwan as a state due to the One-China policy. In order for Taiwan to become a country it would require all of the permanent members of the security council to approve it becoming a country. That will never happen since China is one of the permanent members. The other countries will also not recognize Taiwan because they are restricted by the One-China policy and if they recognize Taiwan it could cause an increase in tariffs with China and it could cripple the country’s economy.
