The war between Palestine and Israel has been going on for centuries. They both believe that the other country took their land. The “Hamas” terrorist group took over the Gaza strip in 2007 and has made the war since then more violent. They performed attacks on Israel which caused Israel’s response, creating a never ending cycle. Even though the issue dates back centuries, the world started to become more involved in the issue more recently and has started to not only taken sides but has begun supporting their side with knowledge and supplies. On November 4th, 2023- a 51.5 ton aid was shipped out from the Indonesian “Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma” air force base. It contained things like food, weapons, medical supplies, blankets, and tents. This was given to Gaza from not just the Indonesian government but citizens who had raised money through organizations as well.
With this shipment, the world now knows who Indonesia sided with. It puts them at a risk of possibly not getting alliances in the future and at risk of getting attacked by Israel or its current alliances. But, it also makes it more likely that other countries might help them if need be because they know Indonesia would do the same. This donation to Gaza from Indonesia’s point of view is a wise decision to help an ally in need, no matter the cost. Whereas, the rest of the world’s view will differ depending on which side they are supporting.
In class, we have discussed the Palestine and Israel war a lot. There are lots of different views but the main thing that makes it complicated is it goes so far back in time. It is hard to discuss what you don’t know. There is much more to this conflict than what people know so it’s not super easy to pick a country to support. Hamas is a group that bases their power around culture. They are a specific sect of Muslim. They are Sunni and make all their rules and laws around their religion.
