This Article covers the recent incident that happened close to the border crossing. Russia coordinated a drone attack on a train heading to Warsaw. The importance of this was that many senior European former leaders, security advisors, and diplomats were on a train that was close to the strikes believing that this was a premeditated attack and not random. The fact that it was so close to the polish border made the polish foreign prime minister calling it an escalation warning that Russia might send drones deeper into poland. the ukrainian foreign minister warns that Europe needs to put full embargos on Russia as retaliation of these attacks. This will only increase border security and going to make the rest of Europe more prepared for these kind of attacks after these countless coordinated attacks at Poland’s border.
What this means for this specific region is that all the countries on the border will now be upping their security to match these threats to be be better prepared if it happens again. I think this event just shows how far drone technology has advanced because now they are able to send drones from Russia all the way to the Polish border. This technological innovation is only going to scare western countries who never had to deal with the threat of Russia to start to take the Russia threat more seriously. I think why this happened was because there were many senior officials from many other countries in that area and it was meant to scare other foreigners from getting involved with Ukraine. Russia has always been known for provoking European countries by small attacks and espionage so this is not uncommon in past history. The main goal of this drone strike is to disrupt aid to Ukraine and to test Natos resolve without waging outward war.
Stakeholders, specifically eastern European countries like Romania do not have good anti-air defence systems that could counter this threat. Many people want Poland to put full scale embargoes on Russia, full entry bans, and full sanctions on the military-industrial complex. The consequences of this is going to lead many MNCs especially those part of the military industrial complex to go to eastern Europe to supply their demands of better air defence systems and technology to combat drones. This event only makes Nato look weaker as they seem to not want to do anything about these situations and just try to avoid them. Russia the main stakeholder in this conflict claimed it was part of its efforts to stop aid coming into Ukraine attacking border crossing as aid is coming through. But this only increases tensions between European states and is going to have the opposite effect intended. Instead of reducing aid it will instead increase European aid and support to Ukraine.
