On the issue of France being taken to court for refusing to repatriate the children of jihadists, I can understand their refusing to repatriate the suspected jihadists but their children are not suspects. In a way they are actually victims. These 3 and 4 year old kids did not choose to join ISIS, plot terrorist attacks, and they certainly have nothing to do with decisions their mother made. Currently, they are being held an in Al- Hol camp that, similarly to refugee camps, is crawling with disease, especially Chlorea. These children are extremely susceptible to these diseases and without the proper care could face death. It is the responsibility of the French government to protect it’s citizens and these children are no different. If they have not committed a crime they should be reunited with their family in France. There are plenty of other stories like this. France needs to set up a system that reunites innocent children with their families in France but also do it in a quick manner. The longer these kids are left in Syria the more at risk they are. This is somewhat similar to the United States situation at the southern border when the Trump Administration enforced a policy separating asylum seeking children from their parents. The execution of this policy led to the Administration’s actions being condemned by people from around the globe. This forced them to start reuniting children with their parents but to this day we still have some children and parents separated. To avoid a similar demise, the French government ought to begin the reparition process. Now that this story has hit the media the government will most likely feel the pressure of the public and its allies.
