Denmark to hold elections as PM bets on Greenland crisis boost

Denmark is holding a parliamentary election on March 24th 2026 after Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s recent popularity boost because of her work on bringing together the country of Denmark against United States President Donald Trump. Frederiksen has made many promises to the People of Denmark that political commentator Joachim B. Olsen believes are going to be difficult to sustain because of the fact that she’s already served two terms so once you’re at that level and you mention a problem like racial inequality, the first reaction of the people is going to be, why haven’t you addressed that until now?

I believe that Olsen is correct in the fact that it’s going to pose a difficult task to get the people she thinks are on her side on her side because she’s served around eight years now and she’s campaigning like shes a new up in comer going against the person who’s not handling the situations their presented with well in office when she is that person. I do applaud her swift response to COVID-19 and wanting to reestablish relations with the United States but my question is why isn’t she handling this problem now and instead holding a snap election that could mean her out of office and someone who might not care as much to create relations with the US.

I think the Danish people should not be enticed by promises that could end up empty and not vote off of some words that were said since being in office for four years, what she’s done already for the country should be the number one priority when doing research on if she should be voted back in. What Frederiksen should do, and what I think she will do, is focus her campaign on what the Danish people really care about right now which is food prices, welfare, and immigration. Because to make the changes Frederiksen wants to make her first step is going to be to earn another term and she cant do that if no one cares about her campaign.

This article relates to legitimacy because the bulk of this article was explaining how Frederiksen was creating her plan on winning back the popular vote from her successful run in the 2022 general election where she received 28% of the votes and how she plans to use her success with the tackling of covid and her involvement with Greenland as the baseline for her promotion of her legitimacy.
