This week I was very surprised to read that Iraq had banned the consumption and selling of alcohol. In Iraq, the main religion is Islam so the religion already bans alcohol, but there are Christians in the cities that rely on the business. The article also discussed the man who had wrote the bill hopes to make all sins of the Islam unconstitutional. This came as a surprise to most Iraqis, making me thankful for the United States government and how the USA highly values the citizens opinions, although it seems as if this may not be the case in this election.
In Saudi Arabia, Turki bin Saud al-Kabir was executed after shooting a man three years ago. In Saudi Arabia the death trial is used from terrorism to drug trafficking. When someone in politics does commit a crime, its interesting to see how different parts of the world react to it. Some parts of Africa has been seen to praise the politicians and royalty, while in most developed nations it is sinful.
I also covered an article that discussed archaeologists uncovering one of biggest carpet mosaics in the Middle East. In this part of the world there is a lot of tension and war, its refreshing to see some positive news that’s related to its history and culture than to its political issues.
